U.S. CURRENCY REDESIGN

Having always drawn inspiration from space exploration, I chose to represent an essential piece of American History by honoring Sally Ride and Ellison Onizuka on my redesigned currency. U.S. seals and signatures were combined with transparency, texture, HD images, color, and security features to create a realistic look and feel.

Although widely renowned as the first American woman in space and for her countless contributions to NASA, many don’t know that Sally Ride was also a volunteer counselor at a women’s correctional facility, the president of Sally Ride Science (children’s science education), and a holder of many degrees, particularly her PhD in Astrophysics ~ specializing in free electron lasers and the interstellar medium.

Ellison Onizuka, the first Asian-American in space, was also a boy scout, flight engineer, teacher, Buddhist, and test pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He was known for having an irresistible sense of humor. After successfully completing the Discovery mission in 1985, he passed away a year later in the Challenger explosion. Sally Ride served on the very panel that resulted from this disaster, which was formed in order to investigate and prevent space shuttle disasters in the future.
